The great unmasking – Dan Woodward

Summercamp favourite Dan tells a story about masks, and how he has used them for protection and to function in a neurotypical world.

The masks offered safety, but Dan had to use them so often that he forgot who he was underneath. Then he realised that he had developed a skill and had a choice of how to use it.

We all create versions of ourselves that change over time, and when these stop being helpful we can invite a version that gives us, and others, permission to live more authentically.

We mirror the postures, the movements, our expressions, and all of those nonverbal communication cues actually kind of tell our brains how to feel. And it becomes infectious. It spreads.
